Elizabeth Pitcairn
Since
performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1996,
violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn, has received acclaim as a soloist, recitalist
and chamber musician. With John Williams conducting, she performed the
solo from his film score, "Far and Away." In Los Angeles, she
performed the Brahms Concerto with Mehli Mehta conducting and in Europe,
she performed at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin. As a recitalist, she has
performed in the United States and in Europe. In 1996, she was presented
on the Celebrity Recital Series in Philadelphia and has appeared in recital
with Los Angeles Philharmonic principal cellist, Ronald Leonard. For two
summers she performed chamber music at the Marlboro Music Festival and
has performed in France at the Ainay-Le-Viel Festival and at the St. Barths,
Sunflower and Buzzard's Bay Music Festivals. She recently performed the
Tchaikovsky Concerto with the California Philharmonic and presently serves
as co-concertmaster of the New West Symphony
Elizabeth Pitcairm was born in Bucks County,
Pennsylvania in 1973, began her violin studies at age three and made her
solo orchestra debut at age fourteen. Since then, she has performed with
orchestras the concertos by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Brahms,
Saint-Saens, Bruch, Wieniawski, Vieuxtemps, Lalo and Mozart. Her early
teachers included Julian Meyer and Sylvia Ahramjian from Temple University's
Institute for Gifted Young Musicians. She has worked extensively with
Robert Lipsett at the University of Southern California and Samuel Ashkenasi
of the Vermeer Quartet. She plays the 1720 "Mendelssohn" Stradivarius.
